LEMORE'S KITCHEN GARDENS
The long awaited kitchen gardens are here! Margaret and Ben’s passion for gardening is now extended to the large development of the kitchen gardens known as “The Patch”. Providing fresh produce to keep not only the chef happy, but to offer the ultimate dining experience, has been on the list of “things to do” for some time, by the Owens.
PREPARATIONS BEGAN MARCH 2020
In March, Roger and his digger were called in to excavate a level area for a poly-tunnel to run alongside the new gardens. Ben spent many days post bashing and fencing which has paid off with an acre of kitchen garden to keep the most ambitious gardener busy! Positioned in an isolated area, comes with plenty of wildlife. One of the first tasks was to ensure the pesky rabbits and pigeons did not destroy all the hard work, so extensive netting was put in place right away.
SPRING FED GARDENS
A large delivery of seeds, compost and manure, has allowed Margaret to spend time out of the office and get planting. Her love for nature, gardening, sustainability and cooking will continue to shine through all the events and dining experiences in the near future. The poly-tunnel has been a huge success for early seedlings and with it’s own irrigation system, fed with natural spring water, guests will be able to savour the freshest of produce for most the year.
ABUNDANCE OF SEEDLINGS
The very first seedlings sprouted in early April with a large array of produce from runner beans, courgettes, tomatoes and cucumbers to rainbow chard and purple pak choi. Within weeks, chef has already been harvesting produce from the gardens and creating mouth watering dishes. In the last week, a variety of new potatoes are shooting up and the sugar snap peas, radishes, onions, rhubarb and horseradish are looking really healthy. Today, the runner beans were planted outside and we are really hoping we have now escaped the frosty nights!
